Last week I about jumped out of my seat when I saw the pictures Leslie sent me from her March Bunco Gathering! She used the “Leapin’ Leprechaun” Print-Your-Own-Bunco Party Kit™ and what she did with it was nothing short of amazing!
THIS is what I’m talking about! This is what I envisioned – that people could get creative with the decorations – see how she mounted them onto wood plaques she painted green? She needed wood, green paint, scissors and glue – you can do that right?
She used the Kit to really bust-out the theme – if I might borrow that expression from the slightly younger crowd. She hosts Bunco like a true Texan – BIG!

Once again, I love Twitter! I noticed a link to a blog post called “If it wasn’t for Bunco, I’d be insane” and of course I had to read it! I love the binding nature of Bunco – the sense of community and friendship those tables and dice provide. And I love sharing other people’s stories. So I tweeted and asked @skirtmuse if I could put her story on the blog and she graciously approved. (Thank you!)

I love Bunco. Three years ago I could never have made that statement. Three years ago I thought Bunco was for old people and kids, not for ‘young’ moms like me. But that was before I got talked into joining a Bunco group. Now I can’t live without it. If it wasn’t for my monthly chance to cut loose, have a beer, talk smack about my friends (to their faces), and just generally forget about my life outside of Bunco I don’t know what I’d do. We had Bunco last night, and I was ready. My kids had been driving me nuts, my husband has been in a bad mood, and money was tight. I needed out of my life for a few hours. Enter Bunco.
I got to spend three hours laughing. Three hours trash talking. Three hours eating snacks I wouldn’t normally eat. And three hours with girlfriends I usually only see when we have kids in tow and are fully involved in being “Mommy!” And we spent about 5 minutes talking about Tiger, 5 minutes complaining about our kids, 10 minutes complaining about our husbands… and then about 15 minutes talking about men who aren’t our husbands, darn the luck. Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman figured prominently this month.
I walked into the host’s house with shoulders tense and knotted and a headache forming between my eyes (I hate my cell phone when my husband’s ‘in a mood’). I walked out with a huge grin on my face, and a skip in my step. I was even able to call my husband back and joke with him. I don’t need drugs, I don’t need alcohol (okay, maybe one Landshark at the beginning of the evening), I don’t even need (much) chocolate. Just give me a regular dose of Bunco with eleven of my closest friends and I’m fine!
